BVUUF Job Opening: School of the Spirit Staff

Join our Unitarian Universalist program as School of the Spirit Staff. We seek a flexible and creative individual passionate about progressive religious education/spiritual exploration. Applicants dedicated to dismantling white supremacy and fostering diversity are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position is Part-time, averaging 3-4 hours per week, 12 months per year. It includes planning and teaching time. This staff member reports to the Director of Children and Youth Programming.

The salary is $17.50/hour, with a possible hourly increase depending on availability.

We’d love to see the new employee start in June, 2024, or as soon as possible.

The plan for 2024-2025 is to explore different social justice topics each month. In 2023-2024, each month explored different spiritual traditions. Each month will be paired with a value that the larger congregation is exploring in Sunday morning service. Examples of possible topics include: Disability Justice & Inclusion, Racial Justice & Repair, Conflict Transformation/Restorative Justice & Deep Listening. Sessions currently take place mostly on Sunday Mornings during the service time. 

Key Duties:

• Plan and lead engaging curricula using monthly thematic lenses.
• Create an open environment for children and youth to explore spirituality.
• Attend monthly planning and other essential meetings.
• Assist in multigenerational services and communication tasks.
• Manage classroom/group and coordinate with volunteers.
• Collaborate with a team of other School of the Spirit Staff. 

Qualifications:

• 25+ years old preferred; 20+ based on experience and maturity.
• Creative skills across various domains.
• Prior experience with children/youth; understanding of multi-age dynamics.
• Familiarity with UU principles and values, or interest in learning
• Proficient in Google Drive, social media platforms, and email.
• Effective English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Physical capability to navigate facility spaces and lift up to 40 pounds.
• High school graduate; some higher education preferred.
• Background check clearance.

We are a mid-sized church with a solid base of energetic and generous members augmented by active visitors, and our membership is growing.
