Join Service Associates Karin Griglak, Eric Williams, and Nicolette Toussaint in the beloved, historic and uniquely Unitarian-Universalist tradition of Flower Communion, a ritual of giving and receiving blossoms and reflecting on the beauty of ongoing community that endures, even in these difficult times. We will look back to history of this celebration, first celebrated in 1923 by the Rev. Norbert Čapek. Founder of the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia, Rev. Čapek lost his life defying the NAZIs. The Reverends Terri & David Schwartz, who wrote much of this service, reflect, “This flower ceremony, lovely though it is, isn’t a diversion from ugly reality, but a gentle fierceness which proclaims that in the midst of sinister days there is always the light of beauty. Amid the hard times we face, let us all join together, bringing what flowers we can find, to celebrate one another, and all the beautiful diversity of all humans.”
