Service Leaders Paul Gibb and Nicolette Toussaint, who are ninth cousins, thank our ancestors and reflect on lessons learned from them. One of our forebears was arrested during the Salem Witch Trials. Though more than 300 years have passed, our UU congregations still practice rituals and hold traditions leading back to the Puritans. In “Learning from our Ancestors: Lessons from the Salem Witch Trials,” Nicolette charts parallels between our times and the 1690s and finds lessons relevant to our own perilous political times.
