Our Beliefs

We have no shared creed, but rather are a covenantal congregation, based on our shared values. Rather than being told what to believe, we support a “free and responsible search for truth and meaning.” Though our faith has liberal Christian roots, this responsible search has led us to an inclusive spirituality, in which we draw from everything from scriptural wisdom to personal experience to modern-day heroes.

We are united in our broad and inclusive outlook, and in our values. We are united in shared experience: our open and stirring services, religious exploration, and rites of passage; our work for social justice; our quest to include the marginalized; our expressions of love.

We are people of all ages, from many backgrounds, and of many beliefs. We strive to be brave, curious, and compassionate thinkers and doers. We explore spirituality and create community in our congregation and beyond, working for more justice and more love in our own lives and in the world.

Unitarian Universalism draws from our heritages of freedom, reason, hope, and courage, building on the foundation of love. We covenant, congregation-to-congregation and through our Association, to support and assist one another in our ministries. For 40 years, UUs summarized these values in a list of Principles and just recently updated our language to be responsive to the moment we find ourselves in today.

Love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. The values we share include all the following, which we hold as inseparable and deeply interconnected:

  • Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.
  • Pluralism: We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.
  • Justice: We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive.
  • Transformation: We adapt to the changing world.
  • Generosity: We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope.
  • Equity: We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion.

If this sounds like you, you are not alone.

How We Treat Each Other Expresses Who We Are

Because of this, our Fellowship has entered into a Covenant of Right Relationship in which we commit to support and engage with one another with dignity, integrity, and respect.
