“The Principles are not dogma or doctrine, but rather a guide for those of us who choose to join and participate in Unitarian Universalist religious communities,” says Rev. Barbara Wellsten Hov, Minister Emerita at Cedars UU Church, Bainbridge Island, Washington.
Ours is a “living tradition” of wisdom and spirituality, drawn from Sources as diverse as science, poetry, scripture, and personal experience:
These Principles and Sources of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) grew out of the grassroots of our tradition, were affirmed democratically, and are part of who we are. Read the Sources as they are written on the UUA site.
*Note that the national UUA has not yet voted to accept the 8th Principle. BVUUF voted to accept this at our congregational meeting on June 4, 2022, as part of a movement of other UU congregations doing the same.
